(how lily+line was born)
Where It All Started
Books have been a literal staple in my life. I grew up with my mom reading to me every chance she got. The first book series she ever read to me was Harry Potter and that was where my love for books myself was born. The magic, the beings, the plot, I loved it all and it created a lot of creative energy in me. Once I got into school and we had those reading marathons at school, it was always the best and a lot of the times, the teachers would have to tell me to put the books down in class because I would get so lost in a book that I couldn't be bothered to put it down until I was done reading it. I grew up telling myself that someday I would be in the literary world myself. Whether it be as an author or someone that helps authors, I just knew that I wanted books to be part of my career. And here I am now, an author PA and an aspiring author myself.
In 2022, after years of sort of lurking around in the Booktok/Bookstagram communities, I finally decided to join myself. I kept up for a while, and then the wonderful Imposter Syndrome bug got to me and I stepped away. In 2024 I came back after finding a few indie authors on TikTok that I really liked. I revamped my account and got back into the community. I started as an ARC reader who also loved making graphics for the stories I read. After a few months, I had the opportunity to be a Beta reader and it was such an amazing experience. This was when I really knew that I wanted to be someone that worked with authors. I also spent a lot of time participating in virtual book tours and launches. I loved making graphics for those and was constantly getting asked to help with graphics for authors. This prompted me to talk with some other PR companies and they all encouraged me to follow my dreams and gave me a few groups to check out.
Long story short, by the end of 2024, I was working with my first author as her Author PA, where I did a little bit of everything and we learned together.
Everything from ARC and street team management, content support, admin coordination, to inbox wrangling, and outreach. I was in the center of their launches and writing processes, learning in real time how book launches actually function when deadlines are tight and emotions are high.
That hands-on experience taught me how to help authors navigate the frustrations that come with being a self published author.
My Personal Approach For Graphics & Content
I grew up watching my mom work in public relations and social media for over 20 years. Several times she would bring me to the events that she was helping with or doing articles for and it was always so fun to see the different graphics you would see around for all the different companies. I started playing around with Canva basically when it first came out and over the last several years, I have learned how to make some pretty cool tricks. When I read a book and go to make content, I love making everything cohesive and match the books aesethics. I look at the colors, the motifs, the recurring objects throughout the book to create unique content because I really do not like copy-paste style. Authors need to stand out and I love helping them do so.
If you’re looking for a PA who understands the industry from multiple angles, I.e., behind the scenes, within reader communities, and through a values driven PR lens...you just found your Author PA Bestie.
